A Contented Life

Mickey, a black and white striped cat, was our most talented cat. He was curious about everything. When I practiced at our upright piano, Mickey would perch on top of the piano, his front paws crossed, and watch me carefully. I had no idea how interested he was until one night a soft piano melody woke me up. We always left the lid of the piano keys open. I walked quietly down the stairs to find out who was playing the piano in the middle of the night. I peeked into the living room. There was Mickey, carefully walking on the keys, his soft paws slowly pressing each key. I was so proud of him, playing a special tune all his own! Years later, I found a piano piece written by the Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti. Scarlatti called it, "Cat's Fugue" because his cat, like our Mickey, was trying out his musical skill by walking on the piano keys. Mickey was also a singer, that is, when he could sneak out of the house at night. We would hear him howling quite loudly at other cats in the neighborhood. But one morning, after a night out, Mickey came home with his long tail almost cut off! Apparently he had been fighting again and barely escaped losing his tail!   NO COMPUTER? NO PROBLEM!! She wrapped him in a clean towel, with his head sticking out at one end and his tail dangling at the other end of her lap. She put Mickey to sleep. Then she took a threaded needle and sewed Mickey's tail back on. He rested a few days from this operation and then continued as usual. He was one talented cat! SUGGESTION: Do you have a pet?
