The Old Mansion
One summer we rented an old house in central Washington. We needed a place to live before settling down in our own house. As we drove into town, one of our children noticed a 2 story house surrounded by hollyhocks and old shade trees. We stopped and looked through it. The owner was happy to show us the house.
It was truly a house with a unique character. Upstairs it had 4 bedrooms. Each bedroom was painted a different color. The walls of the room, the ceiling and the doors were all painted that color. There was a red room, a green room, a blue room and a yellow room.
A long staircase, (We called it the "secret staircase".) led from the upstairs hallway in the back to the kitchen.
But the thing that made us decide to rent it was the oak bannister. From the top of the stairs it was clean and shiny and perfect for sliding down and right out the front door!
"Let's stay here!" ,our children shouted. We all agreed. We named it THE OLD MANSION.
SUGGESTION: You can explore many historic mansions, even on the internet. Who knows what "secret staircases " you might find?
